LOUDON COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - People in Loudon County are taking the first steps to recovery after an EF-0 tornado tore through the Holt Road area near Philadelphia. It happened Friday morning. Loudon County Sheriff Jimmy Davis said the storm hit a limited area, but that area got hit hard. βWe think itβs a pretty limited area within just a couple of miles where it looks like it may have touchdown briefly and then cause some damage in those areas,β Davis said.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Richard L. Bean has retired from his position as the director of the Richard L. Bean Juvenile Detention Center, according to Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobsβ office. Jacobs released a statement Friday afternoon confirming that Bean was no longer the head of his namesake detention center. In it, he said Bean did the right thing, given recent accusations that heβd fired two employees for whistleblowing to the state about operations at the center.

PHILADEPLPHIA, Tenn. (WVLT) - More than a dozen emergency responders headed to the Philadelphia area Friday morning after a storm passed through Loudon County, according to Loudon County Sheriffβs Office Public Information Officer Cody Bengel. The National Weather Service has since confirmed the storm involved an EF-0 tornado. The NWSβs Anthony Cavallucci said the tornado was two miles long and 200 yards wide. βWe do have a report of a structure being damaged with injuries,β Bengel said.

(WVLT) - Liberty Place, a veteran-focused affordable housing complex run by Knoxvilleβs Community Development Corporation, has received national recognition for its work helping those in need. KCDC representatives were in Washington D.C. this month, where the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans presented them with the Outstanding Partnership Award. The award goes to organizations who work to build partnerships with veterans in need.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Zoo Knoxville is celebrating the birth of six bat-eared foxes. The litter, two males and four females, are thriving, the zoo said. It marks the second litter for father Fern and mother Motsumi, who had their first kit, Ziggy, in 2024. βThis is one of the largest litters of bat-eared foxes born in human care in the country, and we are thrilled with how well all six kits are doing,β said Head Curator of Carnivores Terry Canon.
