1 Introduction Restrictive practices are any practices or interventions that has the effect of restricting a person's freedom of movement or ability to make decisions [1]. Restrictive practices, which may include chemical, physical, environmental and/or mechanical restraint, as well as seclusion, must only be used as a last resort and in the least restrictive form. Restrictive practice use in residential aged care (RAC) homes internationally is unacceptably high [2].
