Bulldogs beat Bison in battle of the best of 1A baseball last week

As the number one seeded team in the Colorado High School Activities rating percentage index, Haxtun took on number two seeded Flatirons Academy at the home of the Bison in Westminster. The two teams met for varsity and junior varsity contests last weekend.

Colorado High School Activities Association RPI rankings this week lists Haxtun as the top 1A baseball team. The Bulldogs are in the number one slot according to rankings updated Tuesday evening, April 8. That top ranking comes after Haxtun took two wins in Otis on Saturday and split a double-header with 2A Yuma at home earlier this week. Otis held a perfect 9-0 record before hosting Haxtun on Saturday.
Haxtun Town Council selects chief of police

Darrell Smith is the new Haxtun Police Chief. Smith was officially appointed to the position by the Haxtun Town Council on Monday night. He has served as the Interim Chief since the beginning of the year and been with the Haxtun Police Department since December 2022. The Haxtun Town Council heard from member Ryan Horton, who was lead on the Police Chief Hiring Committee, during action items in Monday night's regular monthly meeting.
Kurtzer presents senior sneak plans to Haxtun BOE

Senior sneak information, new and re-hires and resignations made up the action item portion of the agenda for the March Haxtun Board of Education meeting. In addition to action items, board members discussed a new proposed grading scale for next year and the 2025-26 school calendar. At the start of the meeting, board members heard from senior Zoe Kurtzer, who proposed plans for this year's senior sneak.
Diamond Dogs sit at 4-1 with recent wins over Caliche and Merino

The Haxtun Bulldogs tacked on a second season win with a shut out over Caliche at home last week. In a contest that was regularly scheduled for Saturday but was moved to Friday to allow for better weather, the Bulldogs showed out in an impressive 15-run win. Haxtun went up two runs to none after the first inning and added four runs in each of the second and third innings to put the lead at 10.
Three finalists selected in Haxtun Health's CEO search

Three candidates have been named in the search of a new chief executive officer of Haxtun Health. The release of those names came during a Haxtun Health Board of Directors meeting on Monday, March 24. Following the closing of the application phase, the CEO search committee narrowed the applicant pool down to three candidates following zoom interviews. Finalists include Brian Lady, Kevin Zachary and Julia Biesemeier. Biesemeier currently serves as the Interim CEO at Haxtun Health.
Bowers, Benson & Holcomb take top places in trustworthiness essay contest

This year's topic, trustworthiness, inspired essay winners from Haxtun including first place Lincoln Bowers, second place Maddison Benson and third place Taeden Holcomb. Bowers' first place essay will advance to the Colorado Association for Family and Communication Education's state essay contest.
Bulldog baseball opens with win over Highland and loss to Wray

In just two weeks' time, the Haxtun team has scrimmaged a tough Denver Christian team and kicked off regular season play with back-to-back home games. The Bulldogs are currently 1-1 with contests against Caliche and Merino on deck.
Haxtun Community Choir to present 'We Speak Jesus' musical

The Haxtun Community Choir is delighted to bring a joyful musical, 'We Speak Jesus,' to center stage. Under the direction of Dottie Oman, the musical promises to captivate audiences with the triumphant story of the resurrection of Jesus, highlighting the story of Easter. The adult choir of 50 is made up of men and women from the local area and beyond.
Haxtun Bulldog basketball's All-Conference selections announced

Five Bulldogs received post-season honors at the conclusion of the 2024-25 basketball seasons. Haxtun's boys' and girls' teams both finished in Colorado's 2A Sweet 16 round of post-season play earlier this month. All-Conference honors are decided by vote of head coaches from around the league. Head coaches nominate players from their own team and other head coaches from the Lower Platte League vote on final award designations.
