As the number one seeded team in the Colorado High School Activities rating percentage index, Haxtun took on number two seeded Flatirons Academy at the home of the Bison in Westminster. The two teams met for varsity and junior varsity contests last weekend.

    Colorado High School Activities Association RPI rankings this week lists Haxtun as the top 1A baseball team. The Bulldogs are in the number one slot according to rankings updated Tuesday evening, April 8. That top ranking comes after Haxtun took two wins in Otis on Saturday and split a double-header with 2A Yuma at home earlier this week. Otis held a perfect 9-0 record before hosting Haxtun on Saturday.

    Darrell Smith is the new Haxtun Police Chief. Smith was officially appointed to the position by the Haxtun Town Council on Monday night. He has served as the Interim Chief since the beginning of the year and been with the Haxtun Police Department since December 2022. The Haxtun Town Council heard from member Ryan Horton, who was lead on the Police Chief Hiring Committee, during action items in Monday night's regular monthly meeting.

    The Haxtun Bulldogs tacked on a second season win with a shut out over Caliche at home last week. In a contest that was regularly scheduled for Saturday but was moved to Friday to allow for better weather, the Bulldogs showed out in an impressive 15-run win. Haxtun went up two runs to none after the first inning and added four runs in each of the second and third innings to put the lead at 10.
