The Haxtun Bulldogs brought home a State Track team title, marking the first boys' track championship in nearly 50 years. The Bulldogs earned a total of 77.5 points for the 1A State Track Championship, bringing home the third title in program history. The last came in 1976. The Lady Bulldog track team earned a fifth place finish at the Colorado High School Activities Association State Track Championships at Jeff. Co. Stadium last week. They finished with 41 total points.

Fleming Schools is gearing up for the next school year. Frenchman Board of Education members approved two new staff members as well as the preliminary budget and classified salary schedule for the 2025-26 school year in a May 9 meeting. Principal Kortney Firme opened the meeting with staff reports, noting that all NWEA testing and teacher evaluations are completed for the current year.

The Haxtun Board of Education approved a number of new hires for the 2025-26 school year including a 7-12 special education teacher and a high school English teacher. In addition to the school staff needs, the local school board also approved a list of new coaches for high school girls' sports. The May 14 meeting opened at 7 p.m. in the school library and following the pledge of allegiance and approval of the consent agenda, board members and administration moved onto discussion items.

Former State Senator Jerry Sonnenberg has been named Executive Director of the Farm Service Agency for Colorado by the Trump Administration. Sonnenberg served as a Logan County commissioner beginning in 2023. He resigned that seat on April 16. He started as Executive Director on May 5.

State Track is set for later this week and a number of Haxtun Bulldog athletes have qualified in both individual events and on relay teams. The Colorado State Track and Field Championships are set for May 15-17 at Jeff. Co. Stadium in Lakewood. For a complete list of Bulldog State qualifiers, see below. To wrap up the regular season, tracksters competed in the HJOKA St. Vrain Invitational in Longmont and the 1A/2A Last Chance Qualifier in Limon last week.
