The South Eastern Trust has revealed that over 20,000 hospital appointments were missed last year, amounting to millions of pounds lost.,Last year alone, 22,000 patients did not attend their Consultant Outpatient appointments or their planned procedures, having a profound impact on the Trust's ability to provide care to all patients in a timely manner. Each missed Outpatient appointment costs the Trust on average over £200 and there was a 6% did not attend rate in the last six months.

The USPCA (Ulster Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) has responded to reports of a dog found weighted down in water in the Moy area over the weekend. They commented that this is the latest in a series of distressing cases recently, and that they are witnessing an unprecedented surge in cases of dog abandonment and neglect. The charity is reporting a 72% increase in the number of stray and abandoned dogs coming into their Centre compared to this time last year.

Over 300 alleged stalkers have been arrested in Northern Ireland since the introduction of new legislation to tackle the issue. As part of National Stalking Awareness Week, which begins today, the PSNI has published updated arrest and Stalking Protection Order figures to showcase the successes over the last two years and encourage more victims to come forward. New legislation was introduced to Northern Ireland in April 2022 which criminalised stalking for the first time.

New research published today by the Consumer Council shows 90% of consumers in Northern Ireland are concerned about the rising cost of basics. Basics refer to the everyday living essentials such as housing, energy, food, transport and telephone/mobile and broadband costs. The cost of home energy tops consumer concerns at 91%, followed by food and non-alcoholic drinks (80%), transport costs (71%), telephone/mobile and broadband costs (67%) and mortgage/rent/rates (64%).
