The Minister for Justice has said a working group to accelerate garda recruitment is due to report in the coming weeks. Helen McEntee said there needed to be "a radical change" in the way gardaí are recruited in order to bring the numbers up to over 15,000. The group she said was examining how to potentially change the process "to suit the way people are living, working and studying now".

GAA clubs and counties are set to be the biggest beneficiaries from the Community Sport Facilities fund after the Government announced they will receive close to €97m of the €230m funding. Soccer teams, at League of Ireland and grassroots level, were the second biggest beneficiaries and will receive over €41m worth of fundingGolf received €11.4m while rugby was allocated almost €10m. Tennis received funding of €6.5m with athletics receiving €4m from 29 applicants.

The Health Service Executive has been severely criticised over its handling of an alleged case of sexual abuse of an adult woman at a service run for people with intellectual disabilities. Independent Senator Tom Clonan raised the case of a mother who placed her adult daughter in the care of a Section 38 provider. It is alleged that her daughter was physically and sexually assaulted while in care.

€230 million in sports capital grants has been announced by the Government for clubs and facilities around the country. This is the largest ever figure and 50% higher than two years ago. 1,996 separate grants have been approved covering 40 different sports. A formal announcement was made this morning by ministers from the three coalition parties.

The €800 tax-free monthly recognition payment for homeowners who rent their homes to people fleeing the war in Ukraine is under review, the Minister for Integration has confirmed. However, Roderic O'Gorman warned that any changes to the payment would impact thousands of Ukrainians who have integrated into communities. He said the payment is an important part of Ireland's efforts to provide temporary protection to Ukrainians in line with Ireland's international obligations.
