Restrictions on short- term lettings in towns with a population of more than 10,000 have been approved by Government. However, people in these areas would still be able to rent out their "primary residence" for up to 90 days each year. The changes are expected to take effect in May next year when a Fáilte Ireland register for short-term lettings will be up and running. The move will effectively ban planning permissions for commercial short-term lettings in cities and many towns around the country.

Environmental group Friends of the Earth has said that the 2025 Climate Action Plan, which has been approved by Government, does not put Ireland on a clear path to meeting its climate obligations. The group said the plan largely ignores the twin elephants in the room: runaway data centre expansion and escalating reliance on fossil fuel infrastructure, particularly gas.

The Social Democrats have insisted tonight that it has always been the case that committee positions are allocated based on the general election results. The party wrote to the Clerk of the Dáil to state that the “indefinitely suspended" Eoin Hayes remained a Social Democrat TD.
