The Palo Alto High School library has resumed lending out Chromebooks to students after temporarily shutting down the program in March, on the condition that students provide collateral such as phones or wallets to incentivize timely returns. Starting April 15, when borrowing Chromebooks students must now give librarians an item of value that the library will hold onto until the Chromebook is returned.

April 21, 2024 With the recent addition of “Strands” on March 4, the New York Times now hosts 10 games on its website with new rounds of each game available daily. These games range from easy to hard, text-based to image-based and skill-based to luck-based. The Paly Voice took a look at all 10 games to see which are worth incorporating into your daily routine and asked some students at Palo Alto High School for their input as well. Strands: 9/10Strands is played on a six-by-eight grid of letters.

The holiday season is usually one of reprieve and relaxation for high school students and staff, but for the main characters of “The Holdovers” it is anything but. Directed by Alexander Payne and set in 1970, “The Holdovers” centers around one student and two staff members who must “hold over” and stay in their New England prep school, Barton, over winter break.

One semester into a new “ungrading” grading system, the AP English Language and Composition team at Palo Alto High School is reevaluating and adjusting the grading system in response to student feedback. The 2023-2024 guide for the course says students receive “descriptive feedback” on their assignments instead of traditional grades, with an emphasis on improvement of skills rather than just level of performance. Grades are then determined by the category of the rubric met.

The Associated Student Body is launching a new initiative ASB Studios with a talent show at 5:30 p.m. today in the Performing Arts Center. All participants will receive Palo Alto High School merchandise and the top three contestants will get prizes including an ice cream machine. There is no entrance fee. Seating will be limited and provided on a first-come-first-serve basis, and food will be provided. David Wu, sophomore class president, said all kinds of acts and spectators were welcomed.
