The past few years have brought a series of catchy phrases that try to put a hipster spin on working for yourself: the creator economy, the influencer economy, the freelance life. Over the past decade, I've transitioned from a career as a full-time freelancer to someone who had built what I like to describe as "the spoke life." It's a central skill, with a number of jobs and opportunities built around and connected to that hub like the spokes of a big wheel.
