Brightspeed, which has pledged to bring broadband to more than five million homes and businesses across its 20-state footprint, has priced the sale of $575 million in capital. That funding will be added to the $3.7 billion it raised last year. It also has received $295 million in public broadband grants and subsidies. The multiple system operator (MSO) says it has passed more than two million addresses with fiber and anticipates a million more will be added this year.

Greenlight Networks says that its $100 million investment in fiber infrastructure in Baltimore (MD) will serve its first customers in September 2025. Greenlight Networks wants to become a fixture in Baltimore and says that it is seeking a permanent office location in the city to serve as its regional hub. It also says that it will hire locally for construction crews, network and installation technicians, and community outreach representatives.

The mobile industry is successfully using energy with increasing efficiency and reducing its emissions, according to the GSMA’s fifth annual Mobile Net Zero report. The organization found that emissions from the mobile industry fell by 8% between 2019 and 2023 despite the fact that connections grew by 9% and traffic increased by a factor of four. The press release for the report said that the findings indicate that the mobile industry has decoupled emissions from data and connectivity growth.

Pennsylvania and Oklahoma, with scores of 99.02 (out of 100) and 97.16, respectively, are the states in which people are most likely to engage in activities without their phones, according to a survey and report by Office Recovery. The report surveyed more than 2,000 residents of the fifty states to find what made them not use their phones (hence, left their phones “lonely”). Points were awarded based on the responses and the final numbers were adjusted by state and reported on a scale of 100.

The remainder of the top ten are Oregon (97.09), Maine (97.04), New Mexico (96.88), Arkansas (96.60), Nevada (96.00), Maryland (95.91), Connecticut (95.66), and West Virginia (95.29).
