AbstractThe only currently licensed vaccine against tuberculosis (TB), Bacille Calmette Guérin (BCG), is insufficient to control the epidemic. MTBVAC is a live attenuated strain of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.tb) and is one the most advanced TB vaccine candidates in the pipeline. It is more efficacious than BCG in preclinical models including non-human primates (NHPs), and has demonstrated safety and immunogenicity in human populations.

1. IntroductionAs a result of human population growth, the availability of residual lignocellulosic materials from agriculture, forestry, food- and wood-processing industries, and other waste streams is continuously increasing. The composition and abundance of lignocellulosic biomass make it a realistic option as feedstock for biorefineries, producing the bio-based fuels, materials, and chemicals required for the sustainable development of society without depending on fossil-based resources [1].
