It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Hagley Park - the stage is set, the lights are up and performers have practised their lines. Christchurch’s Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park is returning on Saturday, and as always, it will feature some big names in local and international music. Hip hop legend Che Fu and award-winning singer-songwriter Georgia Lines are headlining the 150-minute show that’s been bringing families together in the Garden City for nearly 30 years.

If you’ve been out and about, chances are you’ve walked through a door that Commercial Door Services has touched. Doors have come a long way in the last few decades. You don’t always have to push or pull to enter or exit - sensor doors have taken over. Commercial Door Services owner Jeff Lee did not see the expansion of sensor doors coming when he started the business with his wife, Michelle, in 1995, but the industry has continued to grow and innovate.

A laneway cafe has discovered its alter-ego — serving coffee by day, and margarita cocktails by night. Permanent pop up restaurant Cantina recently opened at Fools of Desire Cafe in Rangiora. It utilises the space normally closed daily from 3.30pm, transforming it into a Mexican street food diner from 4.30pm Wednesday to Sunday. Whenever there was a new restaurant opening in Rangiora, Cantina co-owner Hess Vertogen said she had hoped it would be Mexican, “but it never was”.
