Barbers Hill ISD Superintendent Dr. Greg Poole likes to stay ahead of the game, and he did when he promised scholarship recipient Rosalyn Kelly a job at the recent State of the District luncheon hosted by the Mont Belvieu Area Chamber of Commerce. He also surprised guests by announcing former Chambers County Commissioner Rusty Senac will be the Honorary Alumni at Barbers Hill’s graduation Friday evening. “Rusty is a great man,” Poole said.

I went to the library one day and discovered a huge, brightly painted Harris Health mobile unit providing ‘Health Care for the Homeless’ in Baytown. I saw a lady sitting on a park bench in front of the library in the shade. When a worker came out of the mobile unit, she asked the worker, “When will you start appointments today?”The helpful worker replied with a big smile, “1 o’clock.”kA 4=2DDlQAbQm%96 =25J @?

Eileen Caudle is the grand prize winner at the Baytown Rotary Club Shrimp & Catfish Festival. She gets to choose between a 2025 Honda Ridgeline and a 2025 Honda Pilot from Community Toyota-Honda-Kia-Cartopia, provided by the Baytown Rotary Club. As I took photos of the festival Saturday, I could not help but notice how many smiles I caught. Everyone from the set-up crew to the last guest in line had a huge smile. I do believe volunteering is good for the soul, not to mention health as well.

“Adrian Combs Memorial Highway” will hopefully promote awareness of bicycle safety and sharing the road with bicyclists. This is the wish of the late Adrian Combs’ family. Friends and family of Adrian gathered at the Oasis Grand Parkway (corner of FM 1405 and SH 99) Tuesday, May 6, to cut the ribbon on a newly named portion of the highway in his memory. In the Rotary Four Way Test Essay category, first place went to Kinley Wheeler, who read her essay to Rotarians May 7. Her teacher is Alayna Hasley of Gentry Junior School. Goose Creek CISD junior high students each year have the opportunity to write an essay on either the Rotary Four Way Test or on Drug Abuse Awareness to possibly win a contest.
