Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux was charming and affable as he visited with members of the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands at their regular Friday morning meeting last week. He spoke on topics as wide-ranging as how to fill Dallas’ desperate need for more officers, how to stem the tide of teen fentanyl overdose deaths and where to find a good po’ boy in his native New Orleans. Comeaux didn’t start out to become a law enforcement officer, much less a police chief.

Eleanor Boynton and Amber Gipson met in 2021 when their young daughters were classmates at LHUMC’s Christian Childhood Development Center. As their girls moved on to kindergarten and their little boys paired up, the women found themselves together spending more and more time with a close group of neighborhood moms. “Living just a few streets apart and watching our wild third-child boys become best buddies made us realize how much we genuinely enjoyed each other’s company,” says Boynton.

When Team USA heads to Brandenburg, Germany for the International Dragon Boat Federation world championships in July, Taffie Lynn Butters will be on the front lines. Butters and her teammates comprise the first breast cancer survivor team ever included in the event. Win or lose, they’ll be making history. Butters is relatively new to the sport. She jumped in following her cancer discovery in 2020. “After my diagnosis, everything changed for me,” she says.

Jesuit Dallas beat Southlake Carroll 2-1 Tuesday and will advance to the UIL state soccer semifinals. After a scoreless first half, senior Noah McGough earned the game’s first goal to give the Rangers the lead. Senior Clyde Araiza put the ball in the net during overtime to secure the win. Jesuit (21-1-0) will now face Mesquite High at 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 5 at Garland ISD’s Homer B. Johnson Stadium. The winner will travel to Georgetown’s Birkelbach Field for the state championship April 12.
