Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a serious and common mental health disorder that results from a complex array of genetic, environmental, psychological, and biological factors (1). The prevalence of MDD in adults in the United States was estimated at 8.4% in 2020 (2). This illness can lead to devastating consequences ranging from self-harm to suicide (3). Suicide rates reached an all-time high in 2022, becoming one of the leading causes of death in the United States (4).
