A man shot dead in front of an Oxxo store and a man thrown from the top of a bridge once again call into question the training of military police officers in the state of São Paulo. From January to December 3 this year, 712 people were killed by military police officers in the state of São Paulo, according to data from the Public Prosecutor's Office. This figure is 54.8% higher than that recorded for the whole of 2023, when 460 people were killed.

Last year, Brazil reached the lowest levels of poverty and extreme poverty since 2012, when the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE, in Portuguese) began the historical series. The information comes from the Synthesis of Social Indicators 2024 survey, released on Wednesday (4). The data shows that 8.7 million people were lifted out of poverty in one year, and the poverty rate dropped from 31.6% to 27.4% of the total Brazilian population.
