With 37 contemporary artists featured, “She Said, She Said” at the Akron Art Museum offers a range of thinking on a variety of topics, from issues of representation in art to depictions of bodies to consumer culture. The exhibit title is a variation on the phrase “he said, she said,” which carries the connotation a conclusion can’t be reached and has historically been associated with cases of sexual assault.

Even more provide free or significantly discounted admission to people who qualify for SNAP food assistance through Museums for All, a national program designed to promote increased access to all types of museums and cultural sites.

Admission to visit a local museum, zoo or botanical garden can run about $10- to $30 per person, depending on the venue. The total adds up quickly for a family. In an effort to welcome people who might not be able to afford it, more than a dozen museums and other cultural sites in Northeast Ohio provide opportunities to attend for free or less than $5 as part of the nationwide initiative Museums for All.

The studio is a sanctuary for Lauren Mckenzie, who, under the name Lauren Pearce, creates intricate, mixed-media portraits in Cleveland Heights. She can listen to the “Nosferatu” soundtrack and put aside distractions while she sketches the Black figures in her paper series or paints colorful textiles to use for their clothing. “I can always tell if I am not in the studio there's something off with me,” she said.
