A Loris couple who purchased a parcel of land shown on the Loris city zoning map as commercial are now seeking a vote to make that designation official. Gary and Carrie Lones, owners of ACTS Heating and Cooling, bought the 1.33-acre property in November 2022 for $72,000. It had been annexed into the city in 2003 at the request of the previous property owner, Martha Ray.

Horton, one of the nation’s largest homebuilders, cut the ribbon on a new housing development on Wednesday, April 2, the second so far this year in the Loris area. The former business partner of a Loris man accused of embezzling funds from a nonprofit is suing over their short-lived joint ownership of a pest control business. Robert Alexander, of Tennessee — the former business partner of Todd Keith Massey II — is suing Massey, a former Horry County police officer, accountant and Loris city clerk, over their ownership of All Star Termite and Pest Control, LLC, of Myrtle Beach. The cycle of ground-breaking and ribbon-cutting ceremonies continued on Tuesday, April 1, on McLeod Health’s growing Carolina Forest campus. Construction crews working on the health-care system’s 48-bed hospital served as a backdrop for the ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new 20,000-square-foot, $20 million same-day surgery center. It's the largest outpatient surgery center on the Grand Strand.
