Dickson County wins Raptor Classic, softball, baseball roundup for week

The Dickson County Lady Cougars competed in the 25th Annual Raptor Classic Softball Tournament last Friday and Saturday hosted by Ravenwood High at Crockett Park in Brentwood. With a 4-game guarantee format involving pool play followed by a single-elimination bracket, teams from across the region, and many from Williamson County, offered up some exciting games and sometimes intense competition.
Red Hawks soar over Dickson County

Creek Wood and Dickson County met last week for a few different sports, but Friday and Saturday saw the baseball teams from the two county schools face off for a home and home series. Friday night’s contest was in Charlotte as the Red Hawks pulled away for a 15-1 win. Owen Maynard picked up a five-inning complete game. He allowed just the one run and four hits. Boone Harris, Jacob Morris and Ethan Ryals each finished with two hits and two RBI.
Sycamore hands Creek Wood first district loss

Creek Wood traveled to Sycamore last week as the Red Hawks faced off against Sycamore in a much-anticipated district matchup. Creek Wood was coming in with confidence and a 5-1-1 record, looking to stand up to the district powerhouse Sycamore, a team undefeated coming in at 7-0-1. Sycamore’s Dylan Atnip scored first and added another later. Dominik Gutierrez scored one goal before half and added another after to give the War Eagles the 4-0 win.
Harpeth takes down Cheatham County Central

Harpeth hosted Cheatham County Central last Tuesday for the second and last meeting of the regular season between the two teams. Harpeth was able to hold off a comeback attempt from the Lady Cubs to get the win 6-5. It’s the first time Harpeth has beaten Cheatham County Central in softball since 2021. The Lady Indians struck early in the first inning with back-to-back doubles from Kyndall Threet and Taylor Riley. Ella Pomeroy came in to score on the first double with Threet coming around after.
Flag Football flourishing in Cheatham County

For the first time in history, TSSAA-approved Flag Football is being played in Cheatham County – and the sport in flourishing across the county. Harpeth hosted the first meeting between the three in-county teams on Wednesday night for a round robin set of games. Cheatham County Central came out strong with a 31-6 win over Harpeth and a 41-6 win over Sycamore. The final game of the night saw Sycamore defeat Harpeth 19-6. The game is consisted of two twenty-minute halves with a running clock.
Boys Soccer: Sycamore shuts out Creek Wood

Last Thursday night saw Creek Wood’s 5-1-1 boys soccer team travel to Pleasant View to take on Sycamore (7-0-1). The War Eagles struck early with a goal from junior Dylan Atnip. Atnip would score again just a few moments later to give Sycamore a 2-0 advantage midway through the first half. Later in the first half, Dominik Gutierrez added another goal to give Sycamore a 3-0 lead heading into halftime. Gutierrez scored once more in the second half as Sycamore kept Creek Wood scoreless.
Harpeth Middle defeats Sycamore Middle to stay undefeated

Harpeth Middle hosted Sycamore Middle last week for a soccer matchup. The Indians came into the game with an undefeated record of 8-0 and kept that record clean with a 1-0 win on Friday night against Sycamore Middle. The lone goal of the night came about eight minutes into the match when Harpeth Middle eighth-grader Xavier Jones scored to make it 1-0. That score held up through the second half to move the Indians on to 9-0.
Sycamore’s McMahan throws no-hitter, round up of other scores from the week

Sycamore High’s Owen McMahan pitched the eighth no-hitter in Sycamore High School history and struck out 14 batters, leading the War Eagles to a 7-0 victory over the Fairview High Yellow Jackets last Tuesday. The War Eagles scored four runs in the first inning of play. An error allowed one run, Gage Walker grounded out to score another, and Nate Batson and Drake Perry each singled to bring in one run each. Sycamore added two more runs in the second inning.
Anna Kate Saylor signs with Milligan University

Anna Kate Saylor signed her letter of intent to play at Milligan University last week. Saylor, a center back for Sycamore’s soccer team, plans to study education and history while in school. “I think the coach will be awesome in helping me become a better player,” Saylor said. “I’m super excited to play at the next level. I’ve loved playing at Sycamore for these past four years because of the sport but also because I’ve made so many friends through the program.
Noah Armstrong brings down 47-year-old school record
