Wallace Robert White Jr.’s homestead, Oasis Farm, has been his source of relief and comfort for the past year. Something White, better known as “Porky,” desperately needed after several health scares. Growing up on a farm, Porky never thought he’d have one of his own. “I wanted to get as far away from there as I could,” admitted Porky.

The book alternates between a second-person perspective, which serves as you, the reader, and Italo Calvino’s book If on a Winter’s Night a Traveller. “This is one of my favorite books,” Warren said.

HEADLAND, Ala. (WTVY) - It’s farmer’s market season, but before you stock up on produce, vendors for the Headland Farmer’s Market are training to ensure your safety. The Henry County Extension Office hosted vendor training ahead of the 15th annual Headland Farmer’s Market. Vendors gathered to get certified in best practices, including food handling and storage. This mandatory training helps make sure the freshest produce gets from field to table safely.

This month, Warren highlighted Sitting Pretty: The View from My Ordinary Resilient Disabled Body by Rebekah Taussig. Warren chose this book to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the signing of the American Disability Act into law. Sitting Pretty is a memoir told in a series of essays by Taussig, who was diagnosed with cancer as a baby.

Named for the California town she began her nursing career and met her husband, Petaluma Gardens’ flourishing fields are the product of a career change, research, and hard work. “I don’t really remember making a conscious decision that I was going to do this. I just know the next thing, I had a John Deere tractor and the land back behind you, I was plowing up,” Fernandez said.
