After operating solely online since 2020, The Rustic Rebel now has a brick-and-mortar site--and it’s in downtown Dawson Springs. Located at 103 West Arcadia Avenue, “The Rustic Rebel is a women’s boutique,” said the shop’s owner and operator, Aly Travis. “I started this in 2020 when I was pregnant with my second child.”For Travis, Dawson Springs was a logical choice.

Always held on the fourth Friday in July, the Dawson Springs BBQ will celebrate its 77th year on July 25. For almost eight decades, the BBQ has been the primary fundraiser for the Dawson Springs Community Center. The community center is operated solely on the revenue from the annual BBQ and rental fees collected throughout the year. A group of volunteers from the BBQ planning committee and the community center’s board of directors gathered on Monday and worked together to make the sauce.

Dawson Springs High School held its commencement exercises on Friday night as those in attendance admired the resilience of the 39 members of the Class of 2025. The latest class to graduate from DSHS did not encounter the traditional school experience, in large part due to COVID-19 protocols during junior high and the EF-4 tornado that rocked Dawson Springs to its very core during the winter of their freshman year.

While in the midst of the last week of school, the Dawson Springs Board of Education spent most of its meeting on Monday night preparing for next year. “We are trying to land the plane,” said Chief Academic Officer Larry Cavanah. “At the same time, we’re getting ready to launch into next year.”Speaking of launches, one change Panthers should expect is in the mornings, beginning with the 2025-26 school session.

The Professional Women’s Club (BPW) of Dawson Springs will be hosting the Miss Dawson Springs Pageant on Friday, June 20, and is seeking contestants. This year marks the 52nd anniversary of the event, which will be held at the Dawson Springs Community Center. Prospective candidates must be 15 years of age, but not exceeding age 21 by Oct. 1, 2025, and must have a Dawson Springs mailing address.
