At its meeting on Tuesday, the Dawson Springs City Council bid farewell to City Attorney Joe Evans. Evans was retained by the city about 18 months ago after then-City Attorney Ben Leonard was elected as district court judge for the 5th Judicial Circuit. In December, Evans announced his retirement effective on his 75th birthday, which is May 4. “This is the last meeting that we’re going to have Joe Evans with us,” remarked Mayor Jenny Sewell.

In the latest development, the cross country and track & field star has been invited by Coast2Coast International Athletics to spend 11 days in July representing the United States in the Coast2Coast Track & Field Championships Down Under in Queensland, Australia.

Because the Dawson Springs Municipal Park Board of Directors just met with engineers and architects two weeks ago, Tuesday’s regularly-scheduled meeting was short and sweet. However, there is one pressing issue that the board members want to make crystal clear: The city park and Riverside Park are two separate entities and each park has its own board of directors.
