    Highline Lake is set to be refilled in early April after months of sitting empty — and although the lake is expected to be full in time for wakeboarding nationals this summer, the state park has not yet set a reopening date for boating and waterfowl hunting. The lake was closed and drained in 2024 after the discovery of zebra mussels, an invasive aquatic species.

For Riverside Education Centers (REC), academic and social support are symbiotic when it comes to helping each student in their program succeed. The center provides academic tutoring, enrichment activities, outdoor education, meal-sized snacks and transportation. In the fall 2024 semester, the nonprofit saw nearly 970 Mesa County students across 15 schools.
