    It’s Friday night at Casa Adobe, a ministry house in Costa Rica, and the loudest chess club ever is meeting. Resonate Global Mission missionary Micah Schuurman and his friend, José Mario, just explained how to checkmate with two bishops. As the kids start their games, birds chirp in the garden, a German Shepherd barks at the front gate, and someone strums a guitar nearby. But the kids are definitely the loudest. “Jokes, laughter, and victory dances are all pretty common,” Schuurman said.

    Only 3% of Cambodia’s population identifies as Christian. Resonate Global Mission missionaries Ly Chhay and Navy Chann-Chhay are working with local pastors, churches, and ministries to grow that percentage to at least 10% by 2033—2,000 years from the year in which many Bible scholars put Christ’s resurrection. For Chhay and Chann-Chhay, that work goes hand-in-hand with seeing individuals, families, and entire communities lifted out of poverty and thriving. “God’s Word changes lives,” they said.

    Kang Heo joined the circle of women under a big shea tree next to a Ugandan village’s grass-thatched church. The sun blazed overhead, and the church was stifling in the heat. The tree provided some much-needed shade as the group read from the Bible together. Heo, a student at Calvin Theological Seminary, was volunteering with Resonate Global Mission missionary Stephen Omoko to lead Timothy Leadership Training sessions.

    In February 2024, the Association of Theological Schools officially approved a partnership between Calvin Theological Seminary and Missional Training Center of Tempe, Ariz. The idea for Missional Training Center came from the Surge Network, a collaborative group of more than 100 churches formed in 2007 to plant churches, sponsor community outreach programs, and train lay leaders.
