Dublin's four local authorities have backed legislation that would allow tourists to be charged an extra fee as part of their stay in the city's hotels. It could be in place by September.

A Sinn Fein TD has apologised for a social media post about the UK court ruling on excluding trans women from the definition of “woman” in equality law. David Cullinane, the party’s health spokesman, said the “complex” issue needs to be approached with “compassion” and he apologised for any offence caused. Trans and Intersex Pride Dublin has said it has written to the party asking it to clarify its position and will consider banning it from its parade in July.

Dublin City Council, Fingal and South Dublin County councils have agreed to a working group, while Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown is also expected to back the work of the group, according to the Irish Times.

Victims of disgraced surgeon and paedophile Michael Shine have met the Taoiseach as part of their bid to have a Commission of Investigation into alleged sexual abuses. The group has urged Micheál Martin to authorise a public inquiry into alleged sexual abuses by Shine, aged 93, who was convicted of assaulting nine boys at two trials in 2017 and 2019.
