Dinosaur teeth found with the help of a retired quarry worker have revealed how the fearsome tyrannosaur once roamed Bexhill-on-Sea. Research led by the University of Southampton has revealed that several groups of meat-eating dinosaurs stalked the region of coastal East Sussex 135 million years ago. It is the first time tyrannosaurs have been identified in sediments of this age and region.

A mother says her "world was turned upside down" when her two-year-old son was diagnosed with cancer after stubbing his toe. When his injury was slow to heal, Zak from Crawley, West Sussex, was eventually given a blood test, which confirmed he had acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Within weeks, the toddler was on an intensive programme of chemotherapy and steroid treatment at The Royal Marsden Hospital in London.

Restoration work has begun to "bring Pevensey Levels back to life as one of the great biodiverse wetlands of the UK". Sussex Wildlife Trust is working with National Highways on a £600,000 Network for Nature project which aims to "create an archipelago of wetland habitat". This would provide "stepping stones" for species to move through the landscape, which stretches across 3,500 hectares (13.5 square miles) between Eastbourne, Hailsham and Bexhill, said head of nature reserves, Jamie Parsons.

A 78-year-old man has died in hospital months after being hit by a car as he crossed a road in Maidstone, Kent Police has said. A woman who was with the man was also injured in the crash at about 10:40 BST on 15 August, but she has since been discharged from hospital. However, the elderly man died in hospital on 26 October. Police said the driver of a black Ford Focus involved in the crash had stopped at the scene and has been assisting police with their inquiries.

East Sussex County Council said the move could reduce queuing at sites, help it save £50,000 a year and reduce trade waste. The authority is looking to make savings to fill an expected £55m funding gap next year. A consultation will run for eight weeks, closing on 22 December.
