Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a woman was stabbed in the street in front of her two children. A 35-year-old woman from Manchester was found with severe injuries in the early hours of Friday morning. The attack on the victim, who has not been formally identified, was witnessed by her two young children. She later died in hospital from her injuries. A resident of Dukesgate Grove in Little Hulton, Salford, told the Manchester Evening News she had been woken by screams at 2:30am.

One of the late Queen's cousins has been banned from driving after he was caught speeding while he was drunk at the wheel of his £100,000 Mercedes. Convicted sex offender Simon Bowes-Lyon, the Earl of Strathmore, was banned from the road for 16 months and fined £1,000 when he appeared at Perth Sheriff Court. The court was told that Bowes-Lyon was speeding in the 155 mph "muscle" car when he was pulled over by police and found to be under the influence of alcohol.

Residents can also use the village post, which remains snail-free, office to send their mail. One villager told the BBC that the issue stemmed from overhanging vegetation near the postbox which seemed to encourage the snails to enter the box. In August, a postbox in Marazion, Cornwall, was temporarily sealed off to prevent the entry of snails, with residents fearing that their mail would be cut off.
