A Westmeath woman has expressed her surprise and pride after a landmine-hunting rat that she adopted in Cambodia set a world record for sniffing out devices. Ronin, a giant African pouched rat, has tracked down 109 landmines and 15 other potentially deadly war remnants since his deployment to northern Preah Vihear province in August 2021. Last week, charity APOPO said Ronin was named the most successful Mine Detection Rat (MDR) in the organisation's history.

A 27-year-old student from Myanmar left Ireland on Wednesday, after living here for two years, to travel to Thailand to visit family who are currently living in Myanmar. Nyein said that she was in her hotel room in Thailand sleeping after experiencing jetlag when she felt the earthquake begin. "It all happened in about three minutes. The hotel was shaking and it was moving both horizontally and vertically and it was not stopping.

Midlands 103 is part of the Tindle Group, which also operates local media outlets in the UK and Channel Islands. South East Radio hosts programmes such as the flagship programme "The Morning Mix" hosted by Alan Corcoran, "Country N'Irish" with Tony Kehoe and "The Saturday Show" with Alan McGuire.

Dublin band Fontaines D.C. were awarded the BRIT for 'International Group of the Year' for the second time at the BRIT awards in London. The organisers of the event said that the award was given to the Irish indie band in recognition of their global reach and success. The band, who are based in London, received the same award at the 2023 BRITs.The nominees in the band's category this time around were Linkin Park, Amyl and the Sniffers, Confidence Man and Future & Metro Boomin.

These communities have lost a pillar in his passing, and the suddenness of his death makes it all the harder to accept that he is no longer with us. Because ultimately being with us, or at least nearby, in our daily lives was his bread and butter and what he got up so early in the morning for. He was a presence, wherever it was that you met him.
