Are you concerned you can’t help your struggling child because they don’t live at home? Do you worry that you won’t be able to help them? It makes sense that the CRAFT or Invitation to Change Approach is easier to use when your child lives at home. Still, there are things you can do to help when that is no longer the case. If you aren’t familiar with Invitation to Change, you can learn more about it here. You may be in contact with your child or not have heard from them for a long time.

I’m excited to share my interview with Jane Macky. Jane shares her program and how CRAFT can help parents support their kids. She is certified in Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) and founded the We The Village program. Jane is also conducting a Family Support Research Study. through The National Institute of Drug Abuse or NIDA. In this interview, Jane shares how a friend struggling with substance use led her to find help. She eventually found CRAFT, a behavioral change approach.

As a parent, it is helpful to have ideas so you can “step into the solution” and help your son or daughter change. Dr. Robb Kelly has had his own struggle with alcohol. He knows what it’s like to feel helpless. Drinking can lead to losing your family and becoming homeless. For a time, Dr. Kelly lived on the streets in Manchester in the UK. Finally, he realized he couldn’t stop drinking, was ready to change, and, with help, started on the road to recovery.
