EASTERN IOWA (Iowa's News Now) — A mixed bag of weather is in store for the holiday weekend with cooler temperatures and widespread rain expected on Eastern Sunday. We will start with some clouds in the morning on Saturday but there will be more sunshine in the afternoon as high pressure builds in. Temperatures will be in the 50s and low 60s. Clouds will build back in Sunday morning as a low pressure system draws closer to the area. Temperatures will be even cooler in the low 50s.

After a couple of quiet days this week (besides the wind), storms chances are back in the forecast late Thursday. Late Wednesday night and Thursday morning a warm front will be setting up across the state. A few showers and even a storm may develop in eastern Iowa Thursday morning. Severe storms are not expected but some small hail and lightning will be possible. Some of these showers and storms may linger later into the morning before exiting the state to the northeast.

IOWA (Iowa's News Now) — Monday marks two years since the largest tornado outbreak eastern Iowa has ever seen in the month of March. In 2023, Iowa saw a total of 72 tornadoes on the year. A third of those tornadoes occurred two years ago on March 31, 2023. The event on March 31st was by far the most impressive severe weather event of the year, with a total of 25 tornadoes touching down on the day. Almost all of these tornadoes occurred in eastern Iowa.
