Being young and "Growing Up" with The Linda Lindas The Linda Lindas are an all-girl punk band comprised of sisters Lucia and Mila de la Garza, Eloise Wong and Bela Salazar. After their 2021 viral performance of “Racist, Sexist Boy” at the LA Public Library catapulted them to fame, the band has been playing major venues alongside acts like Paramore, The Rolling Stones and, more recently, has been on tour with Rancid, The Smashing Pumpkins and Green Day.

On the outskirts of Council Bluffs sits Westfair Amphitheater, where Thursday night, 15,000 fans assembled to see pop sensation Chappell Roan. The show came during Roan’s first week at the number-one spot on the Billboard Artist 100 after a meteoric year for her career. It was also her third and final Iowa performance this year, and the audience was the largest that Roan had ever had for a headlining show. And just like her show at Hinterland this summer — the crowd came dressed to impress.

This family-friendly event will feature nine local musical acts, with genres ranging from afrobeats to Bosnian music. Located in the recently renovated Riverview Park, the main goal of the festival is inclusivity. “This vibrant and free event promises a lively celebration of cultural diversity, bringing together families, friends and neighbors through the universal language of music,” festival director Ashley Eidbo said.

Lily DeTaeye is truly a dynamo — with thirteen years of experience performing and multiple full-length releases under her belt, the Iowan-turned-New Yorker shows no sign of stopping. Her latest endeavor is the music video for “Westbound,” a fairly laid back song about moving onward and upward. “I don’t remember when I wrote the song, but I found it during the pandemic,” DeTaeye said.
