BAYAMBANG, Pangasinan, Philippines — Afternoon in-person classes at all levels in public schools in this town are suspended today until April 15 due to extreme heat. Bayambang Mayor Niña Jose-Quiambao issued Executive Order 23 suspending in-person classes in the afternoon. Public educational institutions were directed to implement modular distance learning, performance-based tasks, projects or make-up classes as alternative means of instruction to meet the prescribed learning competencies.

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Philippines — Two men died from accidental electrocution in Bolinao town and San Carlos City over the weekend. In a report, the Bolinao town police said a 47-year-old truck driver was operating a crane to unload long pipes for a drilling project in Barangay Luna when the boom hit an electric line, electrocuting him. The driver was rushed to the Bolinao Community Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

URDANETA, Pangasinan, Philippines — A farmer suffering from epilepsy drowned in a rice field in this city on Friday. Redante Marquez, 42, was last seen preparing his farm for the planting season in Barangay Camanang. Witnesses said they saw Marquez lying face down in the farm, prompting them to call for help. Marquez was declared dead on arrival at the Urdaneta District Hospital. His partner told authorities that he had been suffering from epilepsy.

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines — As the New Year celebration begins tonight, local government units in Central Luzon have established 261 community firecracker zones and 133 fireworks display areas for a safer revelry. Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, Central Luzon police director, said all 394 designated areas would be supervised by the Philippine National Police (PNP).
