Consumer pocketbooks are taking the heat. Climate change is no longer a theoretical issue that will happen at some distant point in the future, like 2050 or 2100. Already, unprecedented climate change is happening on a regular basis and clobbering the American capitalistic system via consumer pocketbooks. People can’t afford ordinary life. They’re priced out of the market. Everything is getting more expensive by the year, every year.

AMSTERDAM – Ever since Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva returned to office in 2023 and told the world that Brazil is “back on the world stage,” the government has endeavored to establish itself as a global climate leader. As the current G20 president, Brazil is pushing for a sustainable bioeconomy and scaled-up climate finance – goals that it will surely continue to pursue as the host of next year’s United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30).

The largest hurricane to hit the US mainland this year, Hurricane Helene hit the Florida coastline late Thursday as a Category Four storm, devastating much of the Big Bend area of the northern part of the state, then moving rapidly northward as a huge rainstorm, causing flooding and other weather-related damage in as many as 15 states. The death toll is already at 42, and expected to rise considerably.
