1 Introduction Atlantic Water (AW) enters the Arctic Ocean from the Nordic Seas (Rudels et al., 1994; Timmermans & Marshall, 2020; Untersteiner, 1988). The AW is carried in the form of a boundary current around basin margins, and its signals are traced by its maximum temperature (Li et al., 2020; Swift et al., 1997). During this process, the spread of warm AW into the interior of the basin determines the thermohaline structure of the AW column (Li et al., 2020; Rudels, 2012).
