The Steelers are signing free agent running back Trey Sermon to a one-year deal, Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reports. Sermon participated in the team’s rookie minicamp on a tryout basis. He joins a running backs room that includes rookie Kaleb Johnson, Jaylen Warren and Kenneth Gainwell. Sermon, 26, entered the NFL as a third-round pick of the 49ers in 2021. He spent one season in San Francisco, one in Philadelphia and two in Indianapolis.

Quinn Ewers didn’t look happy when the Dolphins selected him in the seventh round two weeks ago. It wasn’t the team that took him, but the round he went. The University of Texas quarterback was the 231st overall selection, the last of 14 quarterbacks selected in the seven rounds. “I didn’t expect to fall as low as I did,” Ewers said Friday, via Alainis Thames of the Associated Press.

Veteran linebacker Jaylon Smith is participating in the Raiders’ rookie minicamp on a tryout basis this weekend, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Smith has remained a free agent since the season ended. The Steelers signed him to their practice squad Dec. 27, but he did not see any action. He last appeared in a game in 2023 with the Raiders, getting 25 defensive snaps in one game.

The Falcons have signed first-round pick Jalon Walker, the team announced Friday. Walker's received a four-year, $20.56 million deal. He joins third-round safety Xavier Watts, fourth-round defensive back Billy Bowman Jr. and seventh-round offensive tackle Jack Nelson in getting under contract. First-round defensive end James Pearce Jr., the 26th overall pick, has not signed.
