JENA, La. — A judge at the ICE Detention center in Jena, Louisiana, told the government it has 24 hours to produce evidence against Mahmoud Khalil or the case is over. Mahmoud Khalil sat calmly, with no signs of tension as Judge Comans and his attorney Marc Van Der Hout discussed who was representing Khalil in his immigration case and who would receive access to a WebX Video Conference that would provide both audio and video to those parties involved with the case.

In a 2020 study by the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, New Orleans ranked 5th in the country’s 20 most gentrified cities. New Orleans is now a city where the cost of living has surpassed the rate of pay for many and with the disparities and disadvantages exacerbated by Hurricane Katrina. It wasn’t all due to Hurricane Katrina.
