A paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Liberty died early Thursday morning, according to U.S. Army officials. A police officer was shot, and a suspect is dead after a shootout in a south Raleigh neighborhood Tuesday evening. The officer suffered a "serious gunshot wound," police said in a news conference. The officer was taken to the hospital. The Raleigh Police Department said officers are investigating what led to the shootout. A massive police presence shut off access to the Rennaisance Park subdivision near the intersection of Tryon Road and Highway 70 after the shooting.

(WCSO)Deputies are warning residents to stay inside in some parts of Zebulon as they search for a man they called "armed and dangerous" Monday, according to the Wake County Sheriff's Office. Dustin Letchworth, 34, ran from deputies as they tried to serve him with "numerous felony warrants," the sheriff's office said. "If you see him, do not approach," the sheriff's office said.
