The Sunset Road Fire was started by a debris burn on private property, the North Carolina Forest Service said. Officials cited and charged Bobby Max Lowery, 48, of Nebo, North Carolina, in connection with the fire. The fire is in Brunswick County, in the southeastern corner of North Carolina. It has grown to 1,331 acres and is 83% contained as of Monday, according to the Forest Service.

Two people are in the hospital, and the State Bureau of Investigation is investigating after a deputy shooting in Hoke County early Friday morning. The sheriff's office went out to a call about a man armed with a gun in Raeford, North Carolina, at about 3:30 a.m."Deputies heard yelling and a shot fired. Both subjects were transported to a local hospital," the SBI said in a news release. The shooting happened on Darby Drive, in a suburban neighborhood just west of Fayetteville.
