There are two types of naked bikes. One is the type developed when a sports bike sheds its fairing, and it is up to the rider to have strong enough neck muscles to deal with the consequences. These streetfighters were born of the desire to save money after crashing sports bikes many times and not wanting to replace the fairing over and over again. The other type is the practical standard motorcycle designed to be a good daily driver and commuter.

Dual-sport bikes have an incredible range of abilities. They are quite literally the only bike you’ll need to do everything. Yes, they can even tour if you don’t mind being a little windblown, saddle sore, and stopping often for gas. Their advantages far outweigh the drawbacks. You can have a dual-sport bike and ride it to work daily, and then come the weekend, it will turn into the bike that will take you on adventures down new gravel roads.

Motorcycles are usually made for a single rider, but riding two up is a bonding experience that few other experiences can match. However, the motorcycle can make or break a two-up trip, so it is important to get the right motorcycle. This is easy when you have an unlimited budget; you can get yourself a technological tour de force with a large engine and space-age electronics. When you have all the toys in creation and the torque of a locomotive handy, two-up riding is a doddle.

Adventure motorcycles, by nature, are versatile things. They manage to put a smile on the rider’s face no matter the road conditions. Or whether there is a road at all! However, with so much choice available today, it is only natural that the genre has gotten more and more specialized. There are the bare-bones examples whose claim to fame is a low purchase price and even lower running costs. At the other end of the spectrum are mammoths that have enough electronics for the Space Shuttle.

The default motorcycle is the naked motorcycle, also known as the standard/street bike. This is a layout with a relatively upright seating posture, no fairing (or a bikini fairing), an exposed chassis, a one-piece handlebar, and an engine that focuses more on the low end and mid range rather than a screaming top end. Over the years, there have been naked bikes that were barely tamed supersport machines, with nothing but a fairing delete to them.

TIL that my Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro earpads are removable. The foam also comes out so drying them isn't a problem. I have clean, comfy earpads!

Today it struck me that 'digital' can mean either 'electronic' or 'something to do with fingers'.

Today I realised that the Great Wall Souo S2000 has twice as many cylinders as the Honda S2000, and half as many wheels.
