Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) initiated their Summer Youth Internship Program (SYIP) ten years ago, and it has benefitted thousands of students and businesses over the decade. In a March 5th press release, Schools Superintendent Dr. Jose L. Dotres praised the program. "SYIP is painting a portrait of our graduates in this community. It is bringing us all together to ensure that students not only learn in school, but they learn locally in their communities and local industries.

Many pleasant events and activities take place between now and the middle of April. Filing income tax is not one of those, and despite several online options now, for many individuals, personal assistance is needed. Sometimes, family or close friends can provide a no-cost solution, yet that is not always available. There are currently two programs in Homestead; one focused on lower-income earners and the other open to the general public.

Traffic on Krome and 4th slowed Friday, November 1st, 2024, as well over 100 people made their way into the white-columned building known as “The Sanctuary.” Originally the First Baptist Church of Homestead, there have been other owners and tenants over the years. In gathering to be part of the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new “Healing Sanctuary,” not everyone was aware of either the building’s background, nor the fact that the day had been almost thirty years in the making.
