Chicago Blackhawks head coach Jeff Blashill officially rounded out his staff on Monday with the hiring of Mike Vellucci as the third assistant coach. Vellucci spent the last five seasons as an assistant under Mike Sullivan in Pittsburgh, where he primarily oversaw the penalty kill. Most recently, he helped Team USA win gold at the 2025 IIHF World Championship as an assistant, giving the Americans their first title in 92 years.

The Chicago Blackhawks announced on Friday morning that Jared Nightingale is returning to the organization as the next head coach of the AHL's Rockford IceHogs. Nightingale, 42, spent last season as head coach and director of hockey operations for the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays, leading the team to a 52-15-5 record and a franchise-best 109 points. He was named ECHL Coach of the Year, earning the John Brophy Award.
