1. IntroductionPulmonary embolism (PE) continues to contribute to significant morbidity and mortality in patients worldwide, despite large advances in treatment. Patients presenting with hemodynamic collapse demonstrate mortality rates between 17.2% and 42.1%, even with utilization of advanced support such as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) [1,2]. Amongst all comers with PE, contemporary data for 2016–2019 demonstrate an in-hospital mortality of 6.5% [1].
