Member post by Cheryl Hung, Senior Director, Infrastructure Ecosystem, at ArmA recent trend in cloud-native development is the use of multi-architecture infrastructures, which can run workloads on either x86 or Arm architectures. At a high level, the goal of running a multi-architecture infrastructure on a public cloud is to have workloads run on the best hardware for the task, without developers being concerned with the underlying architecture. But that doesn’t mean it’s an easy goal to obtain.

Multi-architecture infrastructures let workloads run on the best hardware for the task (x86- or Arm-based) and can optimize price/performance ratios while boosting design flexibility, but migrating from a single- to a multi-arch framework can be tricky. Here’s how early adopters are simplifying the process. Is Migrating Worth the Effort?

After years of steady declines, the costs of running a cloud data center are now soaring, due to various factors such as aging infrastructure, rising energy costs and supply chain issues. A survey by Uptime Institute showed that enterprise data-center owners are most concerned about rising energy costs and IT hardware costs, respectively. In a recent example, Google announced increases in some of its cloud storage and network egress prices, some of which had previously been free to users.
