News By Cheryl Kwan Criticism Over Istanbul Biennial Curator Selection ProcessOn August 3, the Istanbul Biennial announced the appointment of Iwona Blazwick as curator of its 2024 edition. However, criticism over the selection process and concerns over a conflict of interest have surfaced after The Art Newspaper reported on August 10 that the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and the Arts (IKSV) had rejected the Biennial’s advisory board’s choice.

News Jul 18, 2023 By Cheryl Kwan Sharjah’s Africa Institute has canceled its plans for a campus designed by David Adjaye, after a report from the Financial Times in early July that accused the Ghanian-British architect of sexual assault and harassment. According to the report, three women, all former employees of Adjaye, have come forward to accuse Adjaye and his firm for alleged sexual assault and harassment, as well as the toxic work culture at his architectural firm.

News Jul 12, 2023 By Cheryl Kwan On July 2, South Korean artist Cho Yong-Ik, a first-generation Dansaekhwa painter, died at the age of 89. One of the pioneers of Korean abstract art, Cho is best known for his colorful geometric compositions, which pushed the boundaries of the Dansaekhwa movement. Born in Pukchong, South Hamgyong Province in 1934, Cho moved to Seoul following the Korean War.
