In a sure hint of crowded skies ahead and an effort to maintain on-time arrivals, United Airlines is asking domestic travelers to leave for the airport a few minutes earlier this summer. Starting June 3, it will require passengers to be through check-in 45 minutes before departure, whether they are checking a bag or not (Airport Process | United Airlines), and whether or not they are at their gate. International travelers must be checked in 60 minutes in advance.

With the summer travel season ramping up, US officials are on the case to protect travelers from threats human and technological, at the airport and on the ground, at home and abroad. New warnings this week caution travelers to be extra careful in Italy, Denmark and the United Kingdom, where the State Department raised its advisories to Level 2, citing terrorist threats. The three counties join Belgium, Germany and Spain, which already were at Level 2.
