With my other hand, I’m googling: “what is the average respiratory rate for a nine-month-old? Nine, 10, 11, 12. And then, of course, I lose count and have to start again. One, two, three, four. This goes on for another half-an-hour until I’m sure my baby is breathing normally.

I sit in shock, scrutinising the words in front of me. “Good” is a bit uninspired but “quite” feels both passive-aggressive and viciously spiteful: quite good.
