Efforts to construct HS2 have reached a peak with the completion of the first of 13 viaducts at a key rail junction, projects bosses said. The 472m (516yd) single-track River Tame West viaduct has been built at the Delta Junction site near Water Orton, Warwickshire. When all are completed, the 13 structures will take the railway over motorways, rivers, floodplains and local roads from London to Birmingham and on to Staffordshire.

A councillor in Birmingham has called for those responsible for a failed Commonwealth Games legacy project to be named and shamed. The athletes' village in Perry Barr was built by the city council to host competitors during the Games in 2022, but was never used. The BBC reported in August that the flats would make a loss of about £320m to taxpayers and local councillor Morriam Jan said people needed "to be held to account".

Several schools have closed and homes and businesses have been left with no water. Supply issues have hit Leamington Spa with three primary schools and the 1,000 pupil Campion School closed. Severn Trent said it was aware some customers in the CV31, CV32, CV33 and CV34 areas of Warwickshire were experiencing no supply, poor pressure or discoloured water on Wednesday. It added that investigations were underway.
