A study from Harvard University shows one in three former NFL players believe they have chronic traumatic encephalopathy, also known as CTE. “It’s used to describe a progressive, neurological neurodegenerative condition that's associated, as the name implies, with trauma, repetitive trauma in particular,” said Dr. Thomas McAllister, the Albert Eugene Sterne Professor of Psychiatry at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He has been studying mild traumatic brain injury for 30 years.

The Joro spider, an invasive species native to East Asia, was recently spotted for the first time in Pennsylvania. More than one of the yellow and black arachnids were discovered in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. According to Joro Watch, a monitoring system set up by the University of Georgia’s Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health, six spiders were found at a home earlier this month.

For each Olympics, a new medal is designed for the winners. This year for the Paris Olympics, the medals nod to France and some of the most iconic parts of the country. The medals themselves will be set with a piece of iron from the Eiffel Tower, which has been conserved during reconstruction and renovation efforts in the past. The hexagon shape of the medal is a nod to the shape of France, and the back of the medal honors the origin of the Games.

Could exposing young children to peanuts prevent allergies?

A new study by King's College London and the University of California, San Francisco, found that feeding children peanuts regularly before age 5 reduced the rate of peanut allergy in adolescence by 71%. The results of the study were published Tuesday in the NEJM Evidence Journal. Researchers noted that peanuts can often cause significant allergic reactions, prompting fear from some parents. However, they say that the introduction of peanuts early in life can help build lasting tolerance.
