More than five years later, Notre Dame is due to reopen to the public on December 8th. On the Home Front
Recently, I listened to a wonderful sermon by Rabbi Samuel Kaye wherein he focused on the importance of listening to children, and respecting their curiosity. He used the phrase “brave wonder” to describe children’s creativity, inquiry, delight, surprising insights, spontaneity, and magical moments of clarity.

As I pen this piece, children’s mental health is, sadly, in a crisis. Both in the USA and globally. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that one in five children have a mental
disorder. Most mental health authorities contend that recent pandemic-related stressors, the
impact of global warming, international conflicts, growing economic disparities and widespread
poverty, and political and social unrest have all amplified the challenges that kids face today.
