Lexus just unveiled the IS 500 Ultimate Edition as a special model celebrating its sport sedan. The model's legacy dates back to the 2008 model year with the introduction of the IS F sedan because it was the first version of the Lexus IS sedan to use a naturally aspirated V-8 engine. What makes the IS-F so intriguing is that it's not quite a direct competitor against the Audi RS4, BMW M3, and Mercedes-AMG C63.

Burkard Bovensiepen founded Alpina in 1965 as a company to tune and race BMWs. Over the years, the two companies became very close, including Alpina products being available directly from some BMW dealers. In 2022, BMW bought Alpina, but the deal allowed the tuner to continue building its own cars through the end of 2025. When the companies announced the deal, Alpina CEO Florian Bovensiepen said this wasn't the death of his family's automotive work.
