"A very historic event, not just for this area, but the country as a whole," said Dr. Greg Forbes, world renowned severe weather expert. No climatic force on earth matches the violence of an F5 tornado. 40 years ago today - May 31, 1985 - we here in The Valley saw that violence for ourselves. "We knew it was going to be a severe weather day," said Forbes during a presentation Saturday.

The city of Youngstown owns a small plot of grassy land on the east end of downtown at East Boardman and East Federal Streets. Next week, its Design Review Committee will on Tuesday consider plans for a new event center and retail building to go in its place. Former health department director Dr. Amy Acton is the only Democrat running, but that may change sooner than later, too. "Well there's a lot of people calling and texting," laughed former Congressman Tim Ryan during a stop in his native Niles Friday. Ryan hasn't ruled out stepping into the fray.
