The beach is deserted, the sea gently lapping at the sand, and the sun shining brightly. All this in November. I did, cheekily, post pictures on social media to annoy my friends in the UK who had woken up to snow. There’s an overriding sense of tranquillity and relaxation, having an amazing beach and bay to myself.

Coming out at work has never been easy. According to a study done by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, in 2018, 46% of LGBTQ+ folks were closeted at work compared to 50% in 2008 — a 4% decrease in 10 years. But it has been encouraging to see progress, and is part of what made it easier for me, as a cisgender, white, gay man, to come out as a CEO. After months of lockdown early in the pandemic, I made the difficult decision to come out.
